147 workers died in June

NEWS DESK (DİHA) - At least 147 workers died in Turkey in June, according to the report on worker’s death prepared by Worker’s Health and Job Security Assembly, while 749 workers died in job related accidents in the first 6 months of 2015.

The Worker’s Health and Job Security Assembly has issued its June report on worker’s death in job related accidents. The figures were compiled on the basis of the reports appeared on media and issued by labour organisations and profession chambers as well as the reports coming from the relatives or families of the workers. According to the figures presented in the report, at least 147 workers died in Turkey in job related accidents in the month of June. 794 workers died in the first 6 months of 2015.

According to the report, the accidents resulting in death occurred mostly in traffic accidents, and in cases of falling, crush/collapse. Out of 147 workers, 6 were females, while 8 of them were children, according to the figures.

The report drew attention to the fact that the refugees coming to Turkey from war-torn Syria have become a large resource for cheap labour, adding that 3 Syrian refugee also lost their lives in job related accidents in June.

The report recalled that 128 workers died in January, 85 in February, 139 in March, 133 in April, and 161 in May, and 147 in June, including 8 children.
