ANKARA (DİHA) - The jury for the Flying Broom Women's Film Festival has canceled a film competition in protest of the censorship of the film "Bakur," which follows everyday life among Kurdish guerrillas, at the Istanbul Film Festival.

Since an obscure and rarely applied government regulation was used to censor the documentary "Bakur" ("North," referring to Northern Kurdistan, the part of Kurdistan in Turkey) at the 34th Istanbul Film Festival last week, the world of cinema in Turkey has been reacting to the censorship. Most of the film festival was shut down as directors canceled and withdrew from competitions.Recently, on April 18, film critics, film lovers and workers in the film industry held a march in Istanbul's Beyoğlu district in protest.

Today, the Flying Broom Women's Film Festival's short film competition jury announced that they were awarding the prize to all competitors and ending the competition, in solidarity with the directors of "Bakur."
