Mesopotamia Sport Festival starting
DİYARBAKIR (DİHA) - A Mesopotamian Sports' Festival is to take place in Amed between 23 and 28 June. The Mîhrîcana Werzîşê Mezopotamyayê will bring together athletes from all four parts of Kurdistan.
The programme is being organized by the sport section of the social services department of Amed Municipality and is supported by the Union of Mesopotamia Clubs. 300 participants are expected to compete in the Mîhrîcana Werzîşê Mezopotamyayê programme, including sportspeople from the Afrin, Cezire and Kobane cantons of Rojava.
Sporting events will be organised for basketball, volleyball, football, handball, karate, taekwondo, table tennis and tennis, blind judo, wheelchair basketball and athletics. Sporting events will take place all over the city, after an opening ceremony involving a procession from Dağkapı square to Amed city station on 23 June 2014.
Birê was not forgotten
Birê, an almost forgotten traditional game which has an importance for Kurds and which is played in different parts of Kurdistan, will be played on the first day of the sports festival in a competition in the City Stadium of Amed.
Women footballers to compete at festival
After the BDP became dominant in local government in Kurdistan, women's football teams were created in Colemerg, Amed and Qoser. These teams will compete at the festival of Mîhrîcana Werzîşê Mezopotamyayê.
