Response from Sur to Governorship

DİYARBAKIR (DİHA) - Four-month-old Elif Su has been trapped in Sur’s basement for 10 days. She is wating to be evacuated from there. Diyarbakır Governorship announced twice that they would open a corridor for the people in Sur. However, the people in Sur said, “We can't get out amidst all the bullets.”


For 86 days, the blockade and attacks have continued in the Sur district of Diyarbakır. Approximately 200 civilians and four-month-old Elif Su Aslan have been stuck in several basements in Sur since February 17. Diyarbakır Governorship announced twice that a corridor would be opened. However, citizens said that they couldn’t get out because their safety was not guaranteed. Governorship announced today “evacuation between 15: 30 -17: 00”. However, Remziye Tosun who has been stuck in basement with her children said, “What corridor? We don’t run the risk of getting out with our children amidst all the bullets. We will get out, if a delegation comes to evacuate us. Don’t leave the people in Sur alone.”
