ŞIRNAK (DİHA) - A photo released today reveals the torture suffered by Dicle news agency (DIHA) reporter Nedim Oruç after his detention in Silopi district of Şırnak on 5 January.

Alongside dozens of people, Oruç was forcibly expelled from Silopi's Şehit Harun neighborhood and taken to indoor sports facility in Yenişehir neighborhood four days ago. Oruç was among the 37 who were later detained after a criminal record check by police at the sports facility that has been turned into a detention center amid a state of siege across the district. According to witnesses, Oruç was tortured by special operation teams and soldiers after he turned out to be working for DIHA which is among the main news agencies targeted by the state.

Two days ago, Oruç was remanded in custody and sent to Şırnak T Type Prison on alleged charges of “spreading propaganda for an illegal organisation”.

A photo released by DIHA today reveals the atrocity committed by Turkish police against civilians arrested in Kurdish towns where an uninterrupted state of siege and onslaught continues for one month now. The photo shows bruises and marks of torture on Kurdish reporter's face.

Lawyers for Dicle News Agency will file a criminal complaint regarding the torture of Nedim Oruç.
