10-year-old child killed fleeing from police
DİYARBAKIR (DİHA) - Yesterday evening, 10-year-old Beytullah Aydın fell to his death while being chased by police in the city of Diyarbakır.
Yesterday evening, protests against the Turkish army's bombardment of Kurdish guerrillas broke out in the streets of the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır. 10-year-old Beytullah Aydın fled the streets into an eight-story apartment building.
Aydın then fell to his death in the airshaft of the building. He was rushed to hospital, but could not be saved.
Protests intensified overnight in the area. The Diyarbakır governor made a statement relating to the incident, saying that, "there was no social event [protest] ongoing during those hours."
However, especially given that Aydın did not live in the building, many believe he fell while fleeing police attacks.
