NEWS DESK (DİHA) - People's Defense Central Headquarters Command released a statement yesterday regarding the airstrikes conducted by the Turkish army against the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones the day before, commenting this wave of attacks as the initiation of a new process.

People's Defense Central Headquarters Command stated that in addition to the airstrikes, the guerrilla areas along the border have also been targeted by an intense tank and artillery fire which left many civilians wounded, including a child, caused a great material damage for the local people and started forest firest in many areas. The statement said that while the guerrillas didn't suffer heavy losses, HPG Command Council member Şervan Varto was martyred and three other guerrillas were wounded in the attacks.

Offering condolences to all the patriotic people of Kurdistan and Varto (a district of Muş province), the Command reiterated their promise to pursue the cause of the martyrs and to keep them alive in the struggle for freedom and democracy. Pointing out that July 24 would go into history as the day of AKP government and Erdoğan's biggest mistake in political and military aspect, the Central Headquarters Command said that the initiation by Erdoğan and AKP government of a total attack against the Kurdish movement, people and Turkey's democratic powers today, when a significant level has been reached regarding the resolution of the Kurdish question, the basic problem of Turkey, was a manifestation of the hostile mindset and attitude against the Kurdish people and democratic powers.

The statement remarked that President Erdoğan has initiated a process of shedding the blood of Kurdish and Turkish youths for the sake of his own ruling plans, and desired with this to hit and weaken the Kurdish Freedom Movemement, thus to leave the HDP under the election threshold, to receive the votes of nationalist circles by means of this war and to make his dreams of dictatorship real.

The Central Headquarters Command recalled that the Kurdish movement has always remained loyal to the call voiced by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan at 2013's Newroz, and maintained an unilateral ceasefire despite the continued isolation of Öcalan, political and military operations and constructions of military outposts and dams, and specific cases of attacks, like the one in Ağrı-Diyadin and the airstrikes of June 30.

The statement pointed out that the retaliatory actions by some local units in response to the Suruç massacre were conducted as reactive acts not bound to a central decision, and didn't mean a violation of the ceasefire.

Stressing that this most recent total warfare attack by the Turkish state has eliminated the conditions for the continuation of the ceasefire by the Kurdish movement unilaterally, the Central Headquarters Command said they now faced a historic duty of defending freedom and democracy by developing total resistance to total warfare on the basis of the right to self-defense.

Remarking that an extensive process of struggle and resistance lies ahead the Kurds today, the statement said the organized struggle of the Kurdish people and determined performance of the guerrilla will inflict a definite defeat on the Turkish colonialist system embodied by AKP and Erdoğan. "More than a battle between PKK and the Turkish state, this will be a war between Erdoğan's dictatorship and Kurdistan people together with Turkey's democratic powers. This process will be a great and historic one, and a march to victory", the statement said.

The Central Headquarters Command also noted that Erdoğan aimed to cover up the war he has waged against democratic powers and Kurdistan people and to deceive the world's public opinion by despicably equating the Kurdish movement with ISIS. "International powers must be assured that it has no ethic base or sense that the Turkish state and AKP government fraudulently launches an aggression on the guerrillas that made an epic history against ISIS gangs haunting the region's peoples, and disrupts the peace process by imposing war on our peoples. The international powers that treat everything on the basis of interests and have been engaged in vicious alliances with ISIS, should not be a party to the AKP regime and not stand against the fair demands of our peoples", the statement underlined.

'They will not be able to stop guerrila's victory march'

The Central Headquarters Command emphasized that those imposing an aggravated isolation and torture on the Kurdish people's leader by trampling on all the laws will not be able to stop the victory march of the Kurdish people and guerrilla following their leader. "AKP and Erdoğan will not be able to make their vicious dreams real as the struggle of peoples for freedom and democracy will destroy all the fascist barricades", the statement said.

'Our people should join process of historic resistance'

People's Defense Central Headquarters Command called on all the Kurdish people to undertake further responsibility in this process of struggle against colonialism and fascism, and to get united in the course of the Kurdish leader Öcalan. The Central Headquarters Command also invited all the patriotic youth of Kurdistan to join the ranks of revolution and the victory march against the repression and elimination imposed by the fascist AKP regime on the Kurdish leader, Kurdish people and all leftist-socialist democratic powers.
