ANKARA (DİHA) - İdris Baluken, deputy chairperson for the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP)'s Parliamentary group, said that the AKP's air operations only lay the ground for new problems.

İdris Baluken is the deputy chairperson for the HDP's group in Parliament. He is a member of the İmralı Delegation, which has met with jailed PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan regarding the peace process. Baluken commented on the air strikes against guerrillas in Turkey, calling them "the end of the AKP."

The AKP had begun taking up an attacking position before Turkey's June elections, the Parliamentary representative said. "The AKP has actually been attacking the peace process uninterrupted, whether during the elections process or afterward," said Baluken. "We need to look at the political genocide operations ongoing over the last few days and the military operations in the [Medya Defense] Zones in this context."

Baluken speculated that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the AKP government may have decided to start a war in the wake of the June 7th elections, in which the party was served a major defeat at the polls.

"By benefiting from the chaotic environment of clashes and war that would result, they may have hoped to sabotage the hopes in the field of democratic politics and for a peaceful resolution," said Baluken. "In this way, they would reach their goal of being able to be a single-party ruling party and to be a dictatorial power, a goal they couldn't secure in the June 7 elections.

"This calculation is utterly wrong. It's a historic mistake for them to drive this country and all our peoples toward disaster, for the sake of their own gains," said Baluken.

Baluken said that the Kurdish people and advocates for freedom in Turkey have in the past gotten rid of all governments who try to stop democratic demands with clashes and war.He said that the current situation could only spell "the end of the AKP," a second time.
