ANKARA (DİHA) - The co-chairs of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) have issued a statement accusing the AKP government of being party to the Suruç massacre. The co-chairs urged civilians and groups to develop their own security measures.

Yesterday, in the town of Suruç, Turkey, 30 died in a bombing targeting a group of youth activists. The activists were planning to cross the border to Kobanê to help reconstruct the war-torn city.

"That Turkey's revolutionaries, who were on their way… to act in solidarity with Kobanê were targeted just after the anniversary of the Rojava revolution shows that this attack is an effort to break the international solidarity around Kobanê," said the HDP co-chairs in a statement.

The statement noted that while the current government was pushing to send soldiers across the border into Syria to fight the PYD under the banner of "security," the same government had not taken measures to protect its own citizens' lives.

"Our people, our political institutions, civil society organizations, municipalities, all social structures… should develop their own security measures," urged the co-chairs.

The statement called on people across Turkey to come together in a peace bloc against ISIS and those who support them in Turkey, and said the party welcomed all partners ready to stand in solidarity against the massacre.

The party co-leaders wished condolences to the families of the deceased and a speedy recovery to the wounded.
