Bombing victim Saadet called on revolutionaries to support Kobanê
ISTANBUL (DİHA) - Shortly before she was killed in the Suruç bombing yesterday, 20-year-old activist Ezgi Saadet had issued a call for all revolutionaries to support Kobanê.
Ezgi Saadet, 20, was killed yesterday when a bomber attacked a culture center in Suruç, Turkey, just across the border from Kobanê. Saadet and 300 other activists from the Federation of Socialist Youth Association came to Suruç, planning to travel to Kobanê to help rebuild the destroyed city. Kobanê, under siege by Daesh for months in 2014 and 2015 before being liberated in January, was the city where the revolution in the Rojava autonomous region of Syria began.
'All children of Gezi need to come to Kobanê'
Before she was killed, Saadet spoke to DİHA about her plans in Kobanê on June 13 and the significance of the revolution. She described herself as one of the "children of Gezi." "All the children of Gezi need to come to Kobanê," she said. "Because there, we witnessed a living revolution. Everyone needs to stand up for this, especially women. We are calling on all women, all children of Gezi, all those who resist, all revolutionaries, socialists, everyone to be in solidarity with Kobanê."
She said that among her plans was helping to plant saplings for a forest in memory of those who lost their lives defending the Rojava revolution. She also hoped to help restore the city's nursery, destroyed in the Daesh assault, and to help build a playground.
'This revolution took place right next door to us'
"This revolution took place right next door to us," said Saadet. "It took place in the Middle East, a place where violence, repression, cruelty to women and torture are intense. We will go to this place, where there's been a women's revolution, and rebuild it."
She died in the state hospital in the city of Urfa, near Suruç.
