ISTANBUL (DİHA) - After a bombing targeted youth groups planning to join the reconstruction in Kobanê earlier today, a protest has begun in downtown Istanbul.

Today, a bombing killed at least 31 people in the town of Suruç, Turkey, just across the border from Kobanê. The bombing targeted activists from the Federation of Socialist Youth Associations. Youth were planning to cross into the city of Kobanê in the Rojava autonomous region of Syria to help construct a library and park in the destroyed city. As they were making an announcement about their action at the Amara Culture Center, a bomb went off.

Protestors began gathering at Galatasaray High School, located in downtown Istanbul, soon after the bombing in protest. The activists who have gathered spontaneously at the site plan to hold a sit-in until a march starts at 7 p.m.

"The goal of this attack was to remove the bridge of fraternity between two peoples," said İsmail Eroğlu, an activist at the demonstration. He said that the AKP was responsible for the bombing in the tiny town, where activists have long said that Daesh members circulate freely.

Protests are also planned for the Kurdish city of Diyarbakır, Turkey; Ankara; and many other provinces.
