MHP picks Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu

ANKARA (DİHA) - Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) picked Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, former head of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for candidate for the parliament speaker position.

After the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and Republican People’s Party (CHP), the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) also nominated its candidate for the parliament speaker position. The MHP nominated Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu as its candidate for the parliament speaker position. The former head of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was the joint candidate of the CHP and the MHP in Turkey's presidential election last year.

HDP nominated Dengir Mir Mehmet Fırat who is a deputy of Mersin province as Speaker. CHP nominated former CHP Leader Deniz Baykal as Speaker in the meeting of Central Executive Committee.

Candidate from Justice and Development Party (AKP) is are unknown yet.

The deadline to apply for the parliament speaker position is June 27, with the voting process to begin June 30.
