Italy hosts Rojava delegation including YPJ commander
NEWS DESK (DİHA) - Rojava committee composed of PYD Co-president Saleh Moslem, Kobane Canton Executive Assembly Co-President Anwer Muslim and YPJ Commander Nesrin Abdullah are having a series of meetings in Italy at the parliamentarian level.
The committee will first meet with the President of the Italian Parliament and then come together with the mayors of Milano and Palermo. The committee’s main effort is to explain the system of Democratic Autonomy and ensure the reconstruction of Kobanê. TEV DEM Co-President Sinem Muhammed will join the committee in the coming days.
The committee held a press conference inside the Italian parliament to announce the purpose of its visit today. SEL parliamentarian Erasmo Palazzotto, EP parliamentarian Curzio Maltese and the president of the NGO ‘Un Punto Per’ Martina Pignatti also joined the press conference. YPJ Commander Nesrin Abdullah joined the conference in her military uniform, as she had done so before in Elysee palace.
Italian MPs: We support the system of Rojava
Parliamentarian Erasmo Palazzotto spoke first in the press conference that began at 11:30. Palazzotto emphasized the legitimacy of the gender egalitarian and ecologist system Kurds in Rojava constructed, and said that this system protects the faiths and cultures of all peoples in the region. Palazzotto said that they invited the Rojava delegation in order to show their support to the system in Rojava, and thanked UIKI Onlus for the work they had done together in the past.
Curzio Maltese spoke next and said that the European Parliament (EP) should do everything to support the system in Rojava, which protects humanity and civilization.
Salih Muslim: Our aim is safety in Rojava and demozratization in Syria
PYD Co-President Saleh Moslem who held the first speech on behalf of the Rojava committee, firstly gave information regarding the functioning and institutionalization of Rojava cantons.
In response to those claiming PYD to be more dangerous than ISIS, Moslem said; “Our aim is to ensure the safety of the autonomous territory and the establishment of a democratic structure in Syria. PYD Co-president also extended thanks to the Italian public opinion for the support to Kobanê resistance and interest in the Rojava system.
Enver Muslim: Over 330 thousand refugees waiting to return to Kobanê
Kobanê Canton Executive Assembly Co-president Anwer Muslim began his words by expressing their thanks to the Italian NGOs, parties and community for the support they provided to the resistance and reconstruction of Kobanê, and continued by putting emphasis on the need for international support in the rebuilding of the town town by war by over 70 percent. Muslim stated that 125 thousand people have turned back to the town so far, and that around 330 thousand others are waiting to return.
YPJ commander: We aren't a military organization alone
YPJ (Women's Defense Units) Commander Nesrin Abdullah who attended the press conference in official uniform said YPG was a self-defense organization basically, remarking that such an organization was essential against ISIS that see women as the greatest enemy. Pointing out that it would remain insufficient to describe the YPJ as a military organization alone, Abdullah pointed to the need to see the social and cultural sides of the Rojava revolution for women's freedom. She underlined that YPJ took its source of resistance against ISIS from the "practice in Rojava of a system for women's freedom".
The Rojava committee will continue today's program with a meeting with SEL ( Sinistra Ecologia Liberta, Left Ecology Freedom) Party Group Chair Nichi Vendola, and an official visit to the Municipality of Rome, the sister municipality of Kobanê.
