NEWS CENTER (DİHA) - European Parliament (EP) voted on its annual Turkey report, which was accepted by 432 votes to 93.

The 2014 progress report on Turkey was drafted by Dutch parliamentarian Kati Piri and entails the clause “AP supports Ankara government’s initiative to negotiate with PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) in order to bring a solution to the Kurdish issue.”

Voting on the EP report was postponed last year after groups failed to agree upon certain issues such as Cyprus and Armenian Genocide.

For the first time in history, the EP report criticized Turkey openly and had a clear language on issues such as the need for negotiating with PKK, accepting Alevi identity and acknowledging Cemevis, ending pressures on free press, and removing Turkish soldiers from the island of Cyprus.
