ANKARA (DİHA) - HDP Co-President Selahattin Demirtaş condemned the provocations in Amed and described the attempts to hold HDP responsible for the attacks as “flagrant and low.”

Demirtaş said that they were not lambs for slaughter and would defend themselves in case of attacks targeting them. Demirtaş emphasized HDP’s prudent and calm approach, and criticized the president and the prime minister for their continuing silence. Demirtaş said that some are trying to incite a civil war and no AKP minister is responding to the provocations. Demirtaş stated that government officials are waiting silently as if they wanted the provocations to succeed so that they could say “see, the country is in chaos when the AKP is not in power!”

In front of HDP Headquarters, HDP Co-President Selahattin Demirtaş evaluated recent developments. Regarding the provocations in Amed, Demirtaş stated that 3 HDP members were murdered and one of them was executed inside his own house yesterday. Demirtaş stated that Amed Police Department and Governorship should catch yesterday’s murderers and the bomber/s of June 5 massacre in Amed, and emphasized the importance of sharing the details of these investigations with the public.

'Government blames us even though we are ones massacred'

Demirtaş criticized pro-AKP media outlets for their today’s headlines. Despite the lack of official findings on the murderers of IHYA-DER president and 3 HDP members, pro-AKP media had stated that “executions began in Amed after HDP’s election”, and Demirtaş described these accusations as “flagrant and low.” Demirtaş stated that AKP government blames HDP even though HDP members are the ones being massacred. Demirtaş argued that this shows AKP’s inability to govern, and called on the government to resign so that more equipped cadres bring peace and stability to Turkey.

'We bury our people every single day'

Demirtaş called on people to be calm and prudent in the face of provocations, and said that HDP is not an armed group and has no hostilities toward anyone. Demirtaş stated that they bury their people every single day, and thanked everyone working towards frustrating provocation efforts.

They wait silently so that they can say 'Turkey is in chaos'

Demirtaş stated that President Erdoğan, Prime Minister Davutoğlu and other AKP ministers are all waiting silently because they want to incite a civil war and later say that Turkey is in chaos because AKP is no longer in power. Demirtaş stated that they would not allow such a scenario and Turkey would have peace and democracy with or without AKP.

'We are not lambs for slaughter'

Demirtaş stated that the attacks before and after elections have been coordinated from one center, and HDP was the clear target. Demirtaş argued that the culprits of the attacks are the ones who blame HDP for it. Demirtaş criticized AKP attempt to describe HDP votes as illegitimate, and said that AKP describes only its votes as legitimate.

He emphasized HDP’s responsible and calm approach, but added that they were not lambs for slaughter and would defend themselves in case of attacks targeting them. Demirtaş said that HDP is a democratic political party that will shape Turkish politics, and would not participate in any effort that incites civil war in the country.

'HDP did not overcome threshold due to entrusted votes'

Lastly, Demirtaş commented on “entrusted votes” and “coalition” debates, and stated that HDP did not overcome the threshold due to entrusted votes. Demirtaş emphasized the strength of HDP’s base, and said that they had only stated their respect for entrusted votes even if there was only one as such.

'HDP will continue to democratize Turkish politics'

With regards to some MHP officials’ statements on coalition possibilities and “not wanting to be seen with HDP”, Demirtaş said that these officials would only be honored by HDP’s presence near them. Demirtaş criticized these aggressive statements, and said that HDP would continue to democratize Turkish politics.
