ANKARA (DİHA) - HDP Co-president Selahattin Demirtaş answered journalists’ questions as he arrived at HDP Headquarters, and said that the peace process must continue from where it was left off.

Demirtaş answered journalists’ questions as he arrived at HDP Headquarters, and said that the peace process must continue from where it was left off. In response to Deputy Prime Minister Yalçın Akdoğan’s statement on the peace process, Demirtaş said that the process should be valued and everyone should show good judgement since Turkish society expects a political solution.

Emphasizing the importance of the Peace Process Delegation’s access to PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan in Imralı Island, Demirtaş stated that it is not only HDP’s responsibility to further the process. Demirtaş highlighted Turkish society’s expectations and called on other political parties to take responsibility and develop a serious approach.

In response to questions on whether HDP would support an AKP government in exchange for democratization and progress on the peace process, Demirtaş said that they do not have any preconditions and would not be in any coalition with AKP.

In response to Yalçın Akdoğan’s call on HDP to “make the PKK abandon its arms, since HDP got 13 percent of the votes”, Demirtaş said that democratic politics is now stronger in Turkey and AKP deputies are not in a position to give HDP instructions. Emphasizing equal citizenship in Turkey, Demirtaş called on AKP to not get aggressive because it is losing political power.

With regards to entrusted votes, Demirtaş said the following: “During our election campaign, many people said that they support other parties but would vote for HDP. They said that they would support HDP if it carries out its democratic agenda. We are aware of the responsibility these statements put on our shoulders, and we will act according to this responsibility.”
