Noam Chomsky: HDP entering Parliament is Turkey's best hope

NEWS DESK (DİHA) – With just hours to go before one of the most crucial elections in Turkey's history, world-famous linguist and political thinker Noam Chomsky has declared his support for the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in the election.
The countdown has begun to the beginning of Turkey's June 7th election, which will be a choice between democracy and dictatorship for millions of voters. As intellectuals, writers and academics in Turkey declare their support for the HDP as the only hope for Turkey's future, U.S. academic Noam Chomsky has also joined the chorus of voices calling for a victory for the HDP at the polls tomorrow.
"The forthcoming election may have a major effect in determining the course that Turkey will follow—towards more authoritarian and harsh rule, or towards more justice and freedom," said Chomsky in a message to Dicle News Agency. "The best hope for the latter outcome is for HDP to pass the threshold and to become an active force in parliament. The alternative could be grim."
Who is Noam Chomsky?
Noam Chomsky, born in 1928 in Pennsylvania to a Russian Jewish family, is one of the world's most famous linguists and philosophers. Chomsky, whose full name is Avram Noam Chomsky, started his education at the University of Pennsylvania in 1945, where he would receive his BA, MA and PhD. He quickly gained prominence as a leading linguist. Chomsky, who married Carol Chomsky, also a linguist, began teaching at MIT. Chomsky has actively shared his political views. He was a notable opponent of the Vietnam War.
