13 wounded in police-backed racist attack in Erzurum

ERZURUM (DİHA) - At least 13 citizens were wounded in the police-backed racist attack in eastern province of Erzurum where HDP held its election rally today.

The tension in the city began at the morning hours when racist mobs initiated attacks at HDP supporters who were en route to HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) rally. Police-backed fascists attack thousands of HDP supporters who were walking to the area where HDP’s Erzurum rally took place today. Despite the fascists’ provocation attempts, thousands filled the rally area.

A group of AKP Youth Units and Grey Wolves organized the racist attacks via social media. Fascist groups attempted to provoke HDP supporters before today’s HDP rally in the city. As HDP supporters arrived at the rally area, fascist groups gathered at the area’s entrance and began to chant against the HDP. Despite the nearby police barricade, fascists insulted and threw stones at HDP supporters.

Some HDP supporters responded to these fascist attacks and tensions rose. Fascist provocations continued as thousands of HDP supporters filled the rally area. Police and military forces were also placed near the rally area, but did not intervene in the attackers for a long time. Turkish police attacked at HDP supporters and participants of the rally.

At least 13 citizens including DTK (Democratic Society Congress) Erzurum Representative Bedri Fırat were wounded in the police-backed racist attack in eastern province of Erzurum where HDP held its election rally today.

HDP Provincal organization will hold a press statement to condemn the racist attack today.
