11 prisoners executed in Tabriz and Urmiye prisons

NEWS DESK (DİHA) - Eleven prisoners have been executed in Iran’s Urmiye and Tabriz prisons for drug-related charges, and Iran’s media outlets have avoided publishing reports about the executions.

The 11 prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement on 31 May and executed in the early hours of 1 June, sources based at the prisons said. Three of the four executed prisoners in Urmiye were cousins and they have been identified as Mohammad Rashid Radar, Ardalan Radar and Habib Radar. The other executed prisoner has been identified as Shirzad Rashidi.

The sources said the prisoners were transferred from the “mental illness ward” -ward No. 15- to solitary confinement on 31 May.

On the same day, five prisoners were also transferred to solitary confinement a the Tabriz prison and they were Mohammad Sadeghi, Gholamreza Oragi, Mohammadreza Shadkam, Rahman Babaki and Mohammad Abbas Nezhad. Nazhad came from the town of Sardash but the other four prisoners came from Tabriz, according to the sources.

The nine prisoners were executed on 1 June. The sources added that two brothers, identified only by their first names as, Hooshang and Mohammadreza, were executed on 3 June.
