Racist attacks at HDP in Ankara and Eskişehir
ANKARA / ESKİSEHİR (DİHA) - While the support for People’s Democratic Party (HDP) is growing ahead of the 7 June general election, attacks on the election offices and the members of the party also continue increasing in the last days. Nationalist groups have attacked the election offices of the HDP in Ankara and Eskişehir today.
Attacks on the party offices remain on the increase in line with the ongoing campaign by Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and executives AKP who continue pointing the HDP as a target in their speeches.
An attack was carried out by unknown assailants who targeted the election office of the HDP in Türközü neighbourhood of Mamak district of Ankara in the early morning hours today. The attackers who broke down the windows of the office swiftly fled the scene soon after the attack.
In the meantime, another attack has taken place in Eskişehir against a group of HDP members hanging the flags of the party at night as a preparation of the rally of the party in the city today. 5 HDP executives were wounded in the attack carried out by a nationalist group who left the scene before the police arrived.
HDP executives reacted to the police who attempted to detain them but were hindered by the inhabitants of the neighbourhood that intervened the intervention.
The wounded were taken to a hospital for emergency treatment, after which they have been released from the hospital.
