District election board bans HDP rally in Istanbul

ISTANBUL (DİHA) - Zeytinburnu District Election Board has denied permission for the HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) rally set to take place in Kazlıçeşme district of Istanbul on 30 May.
The decision was grounded on the excuse that “the area is not included in the rally areas specified in the law no 2911”. The decision by Zeytinburnu District Election Board was announced in a statement by the Governor's Office which argued that they themselves had no authority to intervene such a case the decision on which was of the District Election Board to make.
The statement added that the rally area was allocated to the celebrations to mark the conquest of Istanbul that day.
