All members of AKP’s Varto branch join HDP
MUŞ (DİHA) - AKP’s Varto branch executives as well as the members, youth and women commissions, comprising 60 people, have resigned from the party and joined the HDP at a ceremony held in front of the HDP’s election office. The AKP now has no members left in the Varto district of Muş after these resignations.
The ceremony was attended by the AKP members who resigned and their family members as well as the HDP and DBP Mus and Varto executives and HDP Muş candidate Ahmet Yıldırım, and local people.
Speaking at the ceremony, DBP Muş branch co-chair Cihat Polat said those who resigned have joined the freedom caravan, adding that the people of Kurdistan are now seeing their wrongdoing and getting united by returning to their home.
The former AKP Varto branch chair, Şaban Deniz, who resigned from the AKP and joined the HDP, said the whole AKP branch in Varto has resigned and joined the HDP, adding that the resigned comprised 60 people, including the members of the branch executive as well as the youth and women’s commissions. Deniz said they resigned from the AKP and joined the HDP as they think that it is the HDP that is contributing to peace in the country and that they wanted to stand together with their own people and their relatives. Deniz then spoke in Kurdish and said “each bird flies with its own flock”, adding that they wanted to continue with other Kurdish people, who are united in the HDP.
HDP Mus candidate Ahmet Yıldırım stressed that it is now time for unity for the Kurdish people and that the new members had returned to their home. Yıldırım said the Kurdish people are advancing towards freedom and democratic autonomy and the important thing at the moment is to sustain national unity, not to question the past.
Yıldırım drew attention to the repressive policies of the AKP on the Kurdish people and recalled its dirty policies in Shengal and Kobanê in addition to its repression in North Kurdistan, adding that the AKP is working to create hostility amongst the people while the HDP works for unity and fraternity. Yıldırım ended his speech by calling on all the people of Kurdistan to unite around the HDP for peace and fraternity.
Following the speeches party badges were given to the new members by the DBP and HDP executives.
