NEWS DESK (DİHA) - The KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) Executive Council Co-presidency has issued a statement regarding the 7 June general elections in Turkey, saying the AKP sees the HDP as the enemy and is capable of carrying out all manner of provocation.

The KCK statement said that as the election nears, there is a likelihood of intelligence organisations and forces controlled by the AKP carrying out incitement. “All democratic forces should be aware of this possibility, and it is thus important to be aware and to oppose such provocations,” the statement continued.

“The people’s wish for freedom and democracy will prevail and all provocations will be foiled. Turkey and Kurdistan will be the centre of free democratic life in the Middle East with the democratic nation model,” the statement stressed, adding that the AKP was inciting chauvinism as part of efforts to prevent the HDP exceeding the threshold.

‘The AKP can carry out all manner of provocation’

The statement said that the AKP had two reasons for attacking the HDP. Firstly, in order to stop it passing the ten per cent threshold, and secondly, by stirring up chauvinist feelings to gain the votes of Turkish nationalists. The KCK statement said the AKP was accusing the HDP of being a threat to Turkey, thus presenting it as a target. “Calling it ‘a foreign project’ means it is an enemy. Hence, the AKP is capable of carrying out all means of provocation. It sees the HDP passing the threshold as its demise and is for this reason persisting with its policy of creating tension.”

The KCK statement drew attention to the great danger implicit in a party which receives over 40 per cent of the vote in Turkey seeing the Kurds and democratic forces as the enemy. The statement emphasised that the only reason a civil war has not broken out is due to the responsible behaviour of the Kurdish people and the forces of democracy. “But the AKP government is continuing to attempt to incite strife. The latest incident being an attack on a guerrilla funeral in Muş.”

‘Guerrilla forces will not engage in any action’

The KCK statement said that despite the continuing repression of the AKP government and its police and soldiers the Kurdish Freedom Movement had not threatened anyone. It denied involvement in the abduction of a soldier in Muş, claiming it was a provocation. “As the HPG Central Command has stated, guerrillas will keep their distance from the Turkish military and only defend themselves if attacked.”

The statement said this stance of the HPG had foiled the attempts of thje AKP to create tension in the pre-election period. The KCK statement continued, condemning the AKP's attempt to pin blame for the bomb attacks on the HDP’s Adana and Mersin offices on the DHKP-C, adding that it was worthy of note that the suspect arrested had links to ISIS. “As a victory for the HDP means defeat for the mentality of ISIS, the biggest supporter of the AKP, it is wholly understandable that ISIS should carry out such an action.

‘All democratic forces should be alert and careful’

The KCK statement said that as the election nears, there is a likelihood of intelligence organisations and forces controlled by the AKP carrying out incitement. “All democratic forces should be aware of this possibility, and it is thus important to be aware and to oppose such provocations.”

“The people’s wish for freedom and democracy will prevail and all provocations will be foiled. Turkey and Kurdistan will be the centre of free democratic life in the Middle East with the democratic nation model,” the statement concluded.
