Antalya folk poet on HDP list to sing peoples' song
ANTALYA (DİHA) - The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) running for the June 7th parliamentary elections mirrors its resolve to embrace different segments of society in order to reach its ambitious goal of exceeding the 10 percent election threshold.
Out of the 550 seats in the parliament, nominees for 268 of them were allocated to women by the HDP as one of the party’s priorities was gender equality. The HDP list presents a portrait of the "other Turkey" not seen in those of the two mainstream parties.
One of the party's woman candidates is İlkin Manya, running for deputy in southern province of Antalya. Manya, a folk poet, is known as "Sarıcakız" in the city. Born in Eskişehir in 1948, Manya went to primary and high school in Ankara and Konya. She became teacher and also won awards in athletics and gymnastics.
She has also a book named "Voice of Mother in Folk Poetry - Halk şiirinde Ana Sesi".
'HDP will overthrow the AKP barbarity'
I have been deeply affected by the Kurdish woman freedom fighter and Kurdish women, said Manya. "After I saw the historical resistance of Kurdish women against Daesh barbarians in Kobanê, I decided to become a member and supporter of the HDP. Kurdish women have become symbols of resistance. The only emplacement of resistance against AKP revilevements is to struggle under the roof of HDP," underlined Manya.
Folk poet told about her story of being a deputy candidate, noting the following, "Humans have no tolerance on fascism anymore. We must bring peace to this country from now on. This can be possible only through hand of woman. It must be knitted distinctively and subtly. I became a deputy candidate in the HDP to claim this duty and responsiblity."
'We will sing peoples' song altogether at June 8th morning'
The national revenue is paid to military, said Manya adding they would change this mentality and providing fair income distribution to the workers.
"The only alternative is the HDP against this misery enforced by the ruling AKP. The others, oppressed and denied identities and beliefs of the country have the right to represent themselves through the HDP. We will sing peoples' song altogether at June 8th morning," concluded Manya, calling on the peoples to get mobilized for the HDP's election campaign.
