Syriza to join HDP Izmir rally tomorrow
IZMIR (DİHA) - Syriza Foreign Affairs Committee Vice President Yiannis Bournous will attend the rally on behalf of Syriza.
As the general elections near in Turkey, support for the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) is growing among the public but also internationally. Following a declaration of support from the German Green Party, the HDP's rally in Izmir on Saturday 23rd May is expected to be attended by an official from Syriza.
The ruling party in Greece has confirmed that Syriza Foreign Affairs Committee Vice President Yiannis Bournous will attend the rally on behalf of leader Alexis Tsipras.
This will be the first time a Greek party has attended the election campaign for a party in Turkey. The choice of city is also meaningful as Izmir had a big Greek population until before the formation of the Turkish republic, when the majority were expelled.
