İSTANBUL (DİHA) - The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) women supporters are pioneering the election campaign ahead of June 7th parliamentary elections in order to reach its ambitious goal of exceeding the 10 percent election threshold.

Out of the 550 seats in the parliament, nominees for 268 of them were allocated to women by the HDP as one of the party’s priorities was gender equality. The party hopes to present its most serious challenge yet against the ruling AKP in Turkey's June election.

The party is hoping to make a radical change in Turkey in the upcoming elections. The party has emphasized woman-friendly policies, including by releasing a 30-page Women's Election Manifesto on April 22. The manifesto, which addresses women's diverse identities and needs, includes specific economic recommendations to fight the exploitation of women's waged and unwaged labor.

'I am here for future of my children'

Woman named Gül Karadaş, residing in Zeytinburnu district of Istanbul, said, "I am coming here with my workbag. I am conducting my work and election campaign together. I am 60 years old, but I am here. I have to work. I am here to defend the right of Kurdish women for my freedom. I am here for future of my children. If Erdoğan becomes president, he will end us."

Activist of KJA (Congress of Free Women) and HDP Alevi Commission member, Kıymet Günyel, is working at the Kurdish political movement since 1996. She is going from door to door, conducting election works.

Call on Turkish mothers: Let you come and stop deaths together

Meryem Dağ is speaking about HDP projects at parks and squares, telling the view of HDP on the problems of women. "If you do not vote the HDP, both we and we will end. Let Turkish mothers come and vote the HDP. Let you come and stop deaths together. Let's build peace through voting the HDP," added she.
