Women in Mersin rally for Ferinaz
MERSİN (DİHA) - Hundreds of women marched in Mersin province for Ferinaz Xosrawanî, who died in Mahabad nearly two weeks ago.
Ferinaz Xosrawanî, a young Kurdish woman working at the Tara Hotel in Mahabad, died attempting to escape a rape attempt by an Iranian intelligence officer on the fourth floor of the hotel, fleeing via the balcony.
Hundreds activists of the Congress of Free Women (KJA) and DEM-GENÇ (Democratic Youth Federation) came together in Akdeniz district of Mersin and marched from HDP Akdeniz district building to Leyla Şaylemez Park for Ferinaz Xosrawanî.
The activists women bore flags, placards and chanted slogans of Woman, life, freedom". A group of MKM (Mesopotamia Culture Center) member women with their erbanes marched at front line.
'Ferinaz is reflection of Beritan's resistance'
Zilan Baran made the statement condemning violence towards women. "Women will improve their self-defense everywhere against male dominant nation-state culture. Hundreds of women die of male violence everyday. The women marched for scream of Özgecan Arslan yesterday, and now for Ferinaz," added she.
Baran underlined, "We are condemning violence towards worldwide women. Ferinaz is reflection of Beritan's resistance. We are inviting all of you to claim woman identity and improve self-defense".
