URFA (DİHA) - Peace Mothers Assemblies of Northern Kurdistan headed to the Kobanê border yesterday morning to protest the ongoing war and celebrating Mother's Day.

The Peace Mothers Assemblies are associations of women who have lost children in the war in Kurdistan and work to promote peace. Peace Mothers from the Diyarbakır, Mardin, Urfa, Batman and Siirt provinces of Turkey headed to the border with Kobanê yesterday to call for an end to the attacks on Kurdistan.

The mothers formed a human chain at the border to greet Kobanê. They also visited the graves of YPG/YPJ fighters and the Suruç condolence tent of YPG fighter Adem Özbek (nom de guerre Tacettin Stemkar), who lost his life fighting in Til Temir. An uncounted number of Kurdish youths have died in the Daesh attacks on Kobanê, which have been logistically supported by the AKP.

"The more we say peace, the more they say war," said Hava Kıran, condemning the AKP for refusing a peace process. "While other mothers are making their children happy with toys, we are embracing the lifeless bodies of ours. Enough already. A state that claims to be Muslim is sending brothers to kill brothers," said Kıran. "Then they shamelessly come to Kurdistan wanting votes. Excuse us, but we won't vote for those who kill us," she underlined.

Peace Mothers protested outside Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul. In the provinces of Van and Diyarbakır, local activists from the Congress of Free Women (KJA) hosted events and dinners to honor the Peace Mothers and all struggling mothers in Kurdistan.
