May Day to be celebrated in Kurdistan in Batman

DİYARBAKIR (DİHA) - The Confederation of Public Workers' Unions (KESK) Diyarbakır branch platform has announced that May Day this year will be celebrated in Batman and called on people to attend.

The KESK Diyarbakır Branch Platform spokesperson Cemil Akay announced at a press conference in the Orkam-Sen building in Diyarbakır that May Day should be celebrated at a large rally on account of the unjust distribution of wealth and the lack of security of life. Akay said: "Union branches in our region in Şırnak, Siirt, Batman, Mardin and Diyarbakır have decided to celebrate Mayday this year in the workers’ city of Batman.”

Akay added that as workers their demands were clear: for an end to workplace fatalities, wages that enabled people to live as human beings, social rights, union rights and freedom.

He indicated, "We want to be the equal citizens of a democratic country, not the slaves of a company pursuing profit.”

Akay called on everyone who was in favour of peace to attend the Mayday rally in Batman.
