ANKARA (DİHA) - HDP MP and İmralı Delegation Spokesman Sırrı Süreyya Önder commented the attack on HDP headquarters in Ankara as a follow-up of the Ağrı provocation, saying it was the government that set the stage for the attack.

The headquarters of the HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) has been targeted by an armed attack last night. Unknown assailants opened fire on the HDP headquarters on Büklüm Street in Ankara's Çankaya district with pump rifles after coming to the scene in a car at around 4 am.

'If state doesn't include in attack, there will be no problem'

HDP MP and İmralı Delegation Spokesman Sırrı Süreyya Önder commented the attack as a follow-up of the Ağrı provocation, saying it was the government that set the stage for the attack. Önder who came to the scene soon after hearing about the attack said police on guard outside the building responded fire to the assailants. He noted that it was 10 am when crime science investigation units arrived there. Önder underlined, "If the state doesn't include in the attack, there will be no problem."

Önder said the attack was a follow-up of last week's provocation in Ağrı and aimed to prevent the HDP from exceeding the threshold by manifesting the party in a spiral of violence. “Nobody would otherwise raid bullets on the party office towards the morning”, he said.

'Government set the stage for the attack'

Remarking that the AKP government set the stage for attacks against the HDP, Önder reminded of Thursday's attack on the party office in Serik district of Antalya, adding; "The government cannot bargain with assailants and have them put down the sign of the party. It is a crime to attack a party's office. Let us not forget about the previous electoral process when government officials took the sign of the party in Fethiye down. All these practices have encouraged the assailants for attacks on the HDP."

'They cannot take any results with these provocations'

Önder emphasized that those standing behind the attack wanted to build walls and a barrier between the HDP and the people and make the party feel defenseless, under attack and threat. "This is not an attitude we could accept. We can ensure our own security but without building a wall between us and the people. They cannot take any results with these provocations", he underlined.

Noting that the people and non-governmental organizations have all displayed solidarity with the HDP in the wake of today's attack, Önder said that such provocations didn't influence the people as they used to in the past.

HDP MP added that government officials have not expressed sadness over the attack yet.
