Court hearing in Soma mine disaster trial continues
MANİSA (DİHA) - The 2nd hearing in Soma Mine disaster case is continuing today in the Akhisar High Criminal Court.
The 2nd hearing in the Soma Mine disaster case is continuing today in the Akhisar High Criminal Court. The 45 charged, including 8 in custody, are testifying at the moment. The company executives have been put on trial over the mine disaster in Soma that claimed the lives of 301 miners in May 2014 and which came as a result of a lack of safety measures, security of employment and neglect by the employers and the AKP government.
The court session is taking place in the Bülent Ciğeroglu Culture Centre, which has been surrounded by police.
Hundreds of people, including representatives of the NGOs, political parties, lawyers as well as the families of the miners are following the hearing.
