First hearing in Soma calamity case in April

MANİSA (DİHA) - The first hearing in the case on Soma mine disaster that claimed the lives of 301 miners in May 2014 has been set to take place at Bülent Çiğeroğlu Culture Centre Hall on 13 April.

The date for the first hearing has been decided following the approval of the indictment by Akhisar High Criminal Court. The indictment which has been reprepared and sent to Akhisar High Criminal Court recently, by which it has been accepted, demands that the eight suspects, who are already under arrest, be sentenced 301 times to between 20 and 25 years in prison on charges of "murder on eventual intent", and 162 times between 2 and 6 years on charges of "grievous bodily harm in consequence".

The indictment also seeks prison sentence between 2 and 15 years for the other 37 suspects who are pending a trial without arrest, on charges of "recklessly causing death and injury of multiple people”. The sentence for 25 among these is demanded to be increased by between one-third up to half in accordance with the relevant article of the Turkish penal code.
