Celebration with march in Kobanê
KOBANÊ (DİHA) - 8 March International Women's Day has been marked also in the recently liberated town of Kobanê where female fighters have waged a historic struggle against the ISIS gangs, with the participation of YPJ fighters and hundreds of women. Women walked from the town to Martyr Dicle Cemetery in an enthusiastic march and left flowers on the graves of YPG/YPJ fighters who fell in the liberation struggle.
Gathering in front of the Yekitiya Star (Women’s Organisation in Kobanê) building on the call of Yekitiya Star, hundreds of women accompanied by YPJ fighters marched to Martyr Dicle Cemetery located on Aleppo road to commemorate the female fighters who lost their lives in the Kobanê resistance. Women carried the flags of YPG, YPJ, TEVDEM and the pictures of all the YPG/YPJ fighters who fell in the resistance, chanting the slogans “Long Live YPJ”, “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” and “Long Live Leader Apo”.
Speaking here, YPJ commander Azime Deniz mentioned the 8 March message of the Kurdish Leader Abdullah Öcalan, recalling that the Kurdish leader said he did not want to live in a country where even one single woman faces oppression. Deniz said YPJ is fighting against the oppression of women and that nor do they want to live in a place where women are oppressed and ignored.
Speaking after, Fatma Osi, the executive of Saziya Malbatên Şehidan, celebrated all women who are pursuing the footsteps of Arin Mirkan, who sacrificed herself on Mistenur Hill, against the ISIS gangs, changing the fate of the war in favour of YPG/YPJ forces in October.
Following the speeches, women left flowers on the graves of YPG/YPJ fighters at the Martyr Dicle Cemetery.
