DISK Secretary General and workers detained
İSTANBUL (DİHA) - Police assaulted and detained a number of workers who occupied the administrative building of Maltepe University Medical Faculty Hospital in Istanbul this morning.
Twenty female workers occupied the building where 98 workers for 80 days are protesting their dismissal on the grounds of membership to Dev Sağlık-İş Union affiliated to DISK (Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions). As the protest continued, male workers opened a banner which reads “Let the dismissed workers be reemployed” in front of the hospital.
Police harshly intervened the protestors, firstly the male workers outside the hospital, before assaulting and detaining the 20 female workers inside the building. The detainees who include DISK Secretary General Arzu Çerkezoğlu were taken to Gülsuyu police station.
