Celebrations of Serê Salê create colourful scene

DİYARBAKIR (DİHA) - Children being educated by the Social Services department of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality celebrated 'Serê Salê' (New Year) at the evening hours of Tuesday.

The Kurds traditionally celebrate 'Serê Salê’ on 13 January, according to the Muslim calendar. Children being educated by the Social Services department of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality assembled at the Sümerpark wearing various costumes to celebrate Serê Salê’. During the celebration they carried placards reading “Ser Sala We Piroz Be” and “Ser Sala Me Piroz Be” (Happy New Year), creating a colourful scene.

Around 100 children took part in the celebrations, during which employees of the Social Services put chocolate, sweets and fruit in the empty bags carried by the children. In return the children said ‘Serê Salê’ and wished for peace in the country.
