143 workers killed on job in September

ANKARA (DİHA) - According to Worker Health and Occupational Security Assembly, at least 143 workers died on the job in September and the death toll rose to 1,414 in the year of 2014.

According to Worker Health and Occupational Security Assembly (İSİG), at least 143 workers died on the job in September. Overall in 2014, the death toll rose to 1,414 in the year of 2014. According to the report, 97 workers died on January, 82 died in February, 122 in March, 121 in April, 417 in May, 146 in June, 127 in July, 159 died in August. Data collection has been made from written, visual and digital media as well as worker’s relatives and labor organizations.

Construction sector

According to the report, the distribution of casualties according to sectors is as follows: construction and road construction (49), agriculture and forest (28), mining (10), transport (10), trade/office/education/film business (9), steel (9), energy (6), municipality/general (6), defense/security (4), food/sugar (3), textile/leather (2), cement/land/glass (2), health/social work (2), tree (1), banking/finance/insurance (1) and unidentified (3).

Among the casualties of September 2014, 11 were women and 132 were men. There were also 5 children and 4 immigrant workers.
