Voice of Rojava: Voice of revolution and peoples

DERIK (DİHA) - We are listening to the sound of the revolution on the frequency of 89.4. "The Voice of Rojava" radio meets with its listeners in 3 parts of Kurdistan.

Broadcasting since 1 April 2013, the radio can be heard in many different places of Kurdistan, from Sinjar to Nusaybin, Cizirê Botanê to Zakho, from Serêkaniyê to the Çarçela peak of the Zagros Mountains.

18 hours of broadcasts in 2 languages

‘the Voice of Rojava’ radio which is today celebrating the second anniversary of the revolution, broadcasts in 2 languages. One of the workers at the radio, Ciwan Qamişlo, said: “our radio mostly reflects the Rojava Revolution. However, it is regional as well as national. Publishing the news from Kurdistan, the region and the world at the beginning of each hour, the radio is broadcasts bulletins in 2 different dialects of Kurdish, Sorani and Kurmanji, and in Arabic.”

Varied programmes

Adding that despite limited resources the radio broadcasts 18 hours a day, Ciwan Qamişlo said: “we start the day at 7am with ‘Ey raqip” (Kurdish national anthem) and close at 01:00 again with the national anthem.” Emphasising that they include all beliefs and communities, another worker at the radio, Amara Bawer, said: “on the holy days of Yezidis, we mention them in our broadcasts. Our listeners enrich the content of our programmes by ringing in. In addition, Armenians, Assyrians, Syriacs, Chaldeans and Arabs live together here. The crucial thing for us is the fraternity of peoples. Our broadcasts are not only national, the holy days of the people with whom we live together, and their celebrations are also covered by our radio. The purpose of the radio is to announce the sound of the revolution in Rojava." The radio starts the day with ‘roj baş’ (good morning). Health programmes, general culture programmes and the history of the Middle East.

People at the front are not forgotten

Amara Bawer added that they don’t forget the Rojava Resistance. “we have a programme about the martyrs of Rojava at 14:00 on Sundays. It is called ‘cangoriyên Welat’. It is broadcast on Mondays too. We are in the process of revolution. On the one hand, we commemorate our martyrs, on the other we cover the heroic YPG and YPJ fighters who are currently resisting at the front. On Saturdays at 16:00 is ‘Parazvanên Gel’ (People's Protectors). We also have a programme which deals with the people’s problems. We are evaluating the problems of Rojava with our guests in the Rojeva Rojavayê Kurdistanê’ “Rojava is the West of Kurdistan”.

And music… stating that they broadcast music and revolutionary music in different languages, Amara Bawer said that the listeners mostly demand the YPG-YPJ music. Besides that, dengbej (troubadour) music is our culture and history.
