Hewler oil delegation to visit Ankara

HEWLER (DİHA) - A delegation of ministers from the Federal Kurdistan region is to visit Ankara in order to collect the oil revenues accumulated in the Turkish Central Bank.

The delegation of deputy prime minister Qubad Talabani, finance minister Rebaz Mihamad and the minister of natural resources, Ashti Hawrami, is expected to be in Ankara this evening. Speaking to Rudaw, finance minister Mihamad stated that the purpose of this visit is to collect the oil revenues accumulated in the Turkish Central Bank for the Kurdistan region. According to the agreement between Turkey and the Federal Kurdistan region, the oil revenues accumulate in the Turkish Central Bank. In order to take the revenue, the signatures of four Kurdish officials are needed. The prime minister of the Federal Kurdistan region, the deputy prime minister, minister of natural resources and finance minister.

Turkey announced that it has started to sell Kurdish oil on the international market in May. The Baghdad government demonstrated its anger and made a complaint to the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris. This visit coincides with a period of increasing tension between the Federal Kurdistan government and Iraqi government. The Kurdish government wants the Shi’ite prime minister Nuri al Maliki to resign amid controversy over the independence referendum in Kurdistan.
