ANKARA (DİHA) - The mineworkers union, Dev Maden-iş, has stated that in June, 10 mine workers died and 9 were injured in Turkish mines.

The union stated that after 301 workers lost their lives at a mine in Soma, work accidents and the murder of workers is continuing. DİSK Dev Maden-İş shared the statistics of work accidents and the murder of workers in June in a statement. It stressed that with the mine disaster in Soma on 13 May, the murder of workers in the mining sector reached the top of the agenda, and said that production at the colliery of the Soma corporation has not restarted yet and the workers are off duty and unpaid.

It noted that workers are concerned both for their future and for their friends who died in the disaster. Stating that the public are not sufficiently informed about the shortcomings and the resolution of those shortcomings after the investigations carried out at the colliery of the Soma Corporation after the massacre of 301 workers, Dev Maden Union said that a criminal complaint to the district governorate, prosecutor's office and the Ministries in order to stop illegal operations in the coal mines had not received a response.

Drawing attention to the fact that the employers had not taken lessons from the disaster and are continuing illegal operations, it stated that the owner of the İmbat mine refused to accept petitions from workers who want to join the Dev Maden Union. The owner also requested the electronic State password (to access information provided on the governmental websites) and has laid off workers who have medical reports. Recalling that the bill of law called the "Soma Law" prepared by the AKP Government is in parliament, the union stated that the bill is utterly insufficient.

In order to investigate mine accidents and take measures regarding occupational health and safety, the Dev Maden union made a presentation including the rights of workers, working conditions, occupational health and safety, illegal operations and immediate prevention in order to stop disasters and fatalities. Stating that accidents and murders are continuing in the mines after the Soma disaster, Dev Maden Union declared that during June, 9 work accidents occurred in which 10 workers lost their lives and 9 workers were injured. The union offered its condolences to the families of those who died.
