HDP Co-chair Kürkçü to sign his books
DİYARBAKIR (DİHA) - The Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chair Ertuğrul Kürkçü will meet with his readers in Diyarbakır Book Fair today.
The opening ceremony of the 5th Amed book fair has taken place at the TÜYAP Diyarbakır Fair and Congress Centre. The fair, featuring books in Kurdish, Turkish and many other languages, was officially opened by the President of the Kurdish Writers’ Association, Mehmet Yılmaz. The opening ceremony was attended by Amed Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı and many writers and publishers.
'Kurdish is a wounded language'
Gültan Kışanak greeted those at the fair in Kurdish, saying: "Kurdish is a wounded language that has a lot of ground to make up, but despite all the bans it has survived.” In his speech in Kurdish the President of the Kurdish Writers’ Association, Mehmet Yılmaz, said: “in the gloom of this world every language is a light, a colour.”
Commemorating Kurdish writers and intellectuals who have been murdered, Yılmaz said: "Our pens have been freed thanks to their struggle and sacrifice”, as he declared the fair open.
