Canada prevents Xêro Abbas from travelling to USA
NEWS CENTER (DİHA) - Canadian authorities at the Toronto International Airport have prevented Syrian Kurdish artist singer Xêro Abbas from visiting the United States of America.
Famous Kurdish Xêro Abbas, a German citizen, was expected to hold a concert in the USA for the anniversary of the formation of the first Kurdish republic in 1946 in Mohabad, an Iranian Kurdish city. Abbas previously held two concerts in Canadian cities Vancouver and Toronto. Abbas was on his way to perform in Washington when Toronto authorities reportedly refused to let him travel to the U.S. without giving an explanation.
There have been numerous cases in the past of Kurdish artists being denied entry to the USA for controversial motives. Abbas was born in Qamishlo city of Rojava in 1962. He is caressed by Kurdish people and he has notable albums like Xerîbo (1998), Westiya Bû (2001), Axîn (2005), Barana Şevê (2007) and Zorê (2010). Abbas had to immagrate to Germany in 1986 because of oppressions and inhibitions of Syrian regime on Kurdish people, its culture and language. In Diyarbakır Newroz of 2002, Abbas took the scene in front of about one million people.
