Kurds victim of an "Economic Genocide"

NEWS CENTER (DIHA) - Speaking about the draft law on prevention of financing terrorism which has recently been approved by the Parliament’s Justice Commission, journalist author Erol Özkoray said the draft law was an "economic genocide" hitting Kurds.

If passed in Parliament's General Assembly, the law will authorize a "Parliamentary Assessment Board", to be made up of bureaucrats working under the government, to seize assets of opponents by claiming that they provide financial support for "terrorism". Speaking to Firat News Agency about the draft law, Erol Özkoray, Editor In-Chief of the closed "Idea Politics" magazine, said the mentioned law was the "most forbidding and dangerous act in the 90 year-history of the Turkish Republic".

"This draft law reminds of a practice by Nazis who seized the assets of Jews before murdering them in mass. The rest of the story is already known to us all. The Turkish state had Kurdish businessmen killed one by one in 90's but now it seems they are intending to solve the problem on a macro ground, in a Nazi way”, said Özkoray and warned that “if put into practice, the law will devastate the entire social texture”.

Journalist author Özkoray pointed out that the "bureaucratic state terror" would spread fear in waves in the economy, and added; “It makes no sense to say 'let's wait and see' because the mentioned law is nominally related with financing 'terrorism' and it bears a sly mission of leading to a financial collapse among a large mass. Besides, this sly enactment may also target non-Kurdish but opponent politicians and businessmen, investors, individuals, press and media organizations, TV channels or parties that claim their rights”.

Özkoray remarked that with the law it is also intended to seize the assets of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) and warned that the law could also deal a blow to Republican People's Party (CHP) and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) as well. “Several bureaucrats from the 'Assessment Board' could easily seize and freeze the assets of any party and by means of a false document. It would be a great credulity to assume that the AKP will not touch other parties while building totalitarianism after finishing up the BDP. Erdoğan said at the very beginning that “any way is fair on the way to the target”.

Journalist Özkoray continued saying that; “We are the witnesses of the fact the Anti-Terror Law (TMK) has arbitrarily been used as a 'social genocide' policy against countless people, even those who have never seen or fired a gun in their lives, who were later declared as terrorists. The Armenian Genocide also began with the arrests of a total of 206 Armenian intellectuals, authors, deputies, journalists and leaders of the society in Istanbul on 24 April 1915. This operation had the aim to leave masses without leaders so that they could be hunted easily. Similarly, the TMK has even expanded to non-Kurdish intellectuals, such as Ragıp Zarakolu and Büşra Ersanlı”.

Özkoray pointed out that the draft law on prevention of "financing terrorism" should be considered as a significant step of today's "genocide policy" against Kurds, adding that; “With the enactment of this law, the state intends to make Kurds an easy bait by subjecting them to a financial weakness. Just like the TMK, which has been used to eliminate the political knowledge and legitimate political organization of Kurds, the new law has also been planned in a way to devastate Kurds financially”.

Underlining that the mentioned draft law should be prevented from passing into law to avoid greater disasters, Özkoray said that; “At this point, Turks, from organizations of businessmen to non-governmental organizations, should also shoulder responsibility and make common cause with Kurds to counterwork this poor policy. If the law is still put into effect, it should definitively be taken to the Constitutional Court and repealed because of the fact that it violates the constitution”.

Özkoray ended saying that; “It shouldn't be forgotten that the regime of bare fascism is built slily and step by step, just like the Hitler regime which gradually and blatantly brought Nazism. Nobody listened to the intellectuals at the time who had foreseen a disaster and warned of deadly dangers. It was too late when the regime showed its true color”.
