Turkish tanks shelling neighborhoods 2016-01-05 14:41:32 ŞIRNAK (DİHA) - As genocidal attacks by state forces continue in Şırnak's Cizre district for the 23rd day, tanks deployed in town centre have started to shell neighborhoods. Nur neighborhood has been hit by dozens of strikes launched from tanks deployed on Yafes, Arin Mirxan and Botaş streets which are protected by armored vehicles. The aggression has left dozens of houses damaged and many others on fire which cannot be intervened due to denial of permission by state forces to fire squads. In the meantime, tanks deployed on hills overlooking the town are also shelling Cudi, Sur and Yafes neighborhoods. On the other hand, state forces continue making efforts to infiltrate into neighborhoods. Turkish units that attempted to enter Cudi neighborhood through Cafer Sadık Hill were strongly responded by local self-defense units YPS and civilian residents. Turkish troops were forced to retreat from the area after failing to make advance into the neighborhood as a result of heavy clashes. (nt)
