Marchers protesting massacre: We know the killers

NEWS DESK (DİHA) - Tens of thousands of people took to the streets across Turkey yesterday evening to condemn the bombing on Suruç.

Yesterday in the town of Suruç, Turkey, just across the border from the Rojava city of Kobanê, a suicide bomb killed at least 30. The bomb targeted youth who were planning to cross to Kobanê to help build a library and park in the ruined city. 

People across Turkey condemned the attack in Suruç yesterday with marches and protests. Protests took place in the cities of Diyarbakır, Mardin, Şırnak, Hakkari, Siirt, Kars, Izmir, Istanbul, Adana, Batman and Van, as well as in towns across the country.

"Those who couldn't stand the struggle, which oppressed people have come together to wage against the gang ISIS, have begun to attack civilians," said Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) activist Ömer Önen, speaking at the Diyarbakır march.

In the mainly Kurdish city of Siirt, police cracked down on a march of thousands protesting the massacre. Police fired tear gas and water cannons at the crowd, which including Siirt's HDP parliamentary representatives and co-mayors. Clashes continued into the evening. 12 people were arrested.

In Istanbul, after protestors marched through the downtown Taksim district to protest the massacre, police attacked protestors with tear gas, water cannons and plastic bullets. As the crowd dispersed into the side streets, some protestors fought back using fireworks.

Municipal buildings in many cities have been covered in black cloth in many areas.
