The regional May Day rally in Batman today is being attended by tens of thousands of workers and democratic forces, all of which unfurled their flags and banners in a colourful and pluralist way. Tens of thousands of people have started to reach Batman from neighbouring provinces for a regional May Day rally. Workers and toilers entered the city from 3 directions after gathering at the central crossroads. The workers then formed corteges behind the banners of the trade unions, mainly KESK, DISK/Genel İş and Petrol İş, while the activists and NGOs joined with their own flags and banners. The march was also attended by DBP (Democratic Regions Party) Co-chair Kamuran Yüksek, KESK Vice Co-chair Şaziye Köse, HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) deputies and candidates as well as heads of trade unions in the region. In addition to flags of the groups, people also carried posters of PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) Leader Abdullah Öcalan, the flags of YPG/YPJ, KCK and the PKK, while chanting slogans supporting the resistance in Kobanê and the struggle of the workers and women. The crowd has started to enter the rally area in groups while the programme will start after the arrival of all the groups. (nt)
